SJC Love Stories: Carol and Ed

The year was1961, at a chorus mixer with St. Francis College. The young ladies of Saint Joe’s practiced,  rehearsed, and worked hard in preparation for singing and dancing with the gents from St. Francis. One of the songs we sang together was “A Hole in the Bucket,” a spicy, fun tune requiring the gal and the guy to sing parts back and forth to each other. His name was Ed, he was a junior, and I, a mere little freshman, but we  had a grand time playing the parts of Dear Willy and Dear Liza.

The concert was followed by the dance, and this upperclassman asked me to dance with him… again and again and again.

Well, folks, four years later, and I was the first in the Class of 1965 to be engaged. Ed and I shared 45 years of respect, devotion, and love for one another until his death in 2010, all because of Dear Willy and Dear Liza.
