Brightspace will be launching Spring Semester 2015 for Campus faculty!

TRAINING IS NOW AVAILABLE!

To sign up for the first course —Introduction to Brightspace,* email askcidet@sjcme.edu or call x 7828. This course is an online, self-study course. You will be introduced to the Brightspace basics and gain access to your own sandbox course. This course is required before any other courses can be taken.
*If you also teach for SJC online, the LMS Instructor Basic Training can substitute for the Introduction to Brightspace course.

Q: What is Brightspace?
A: Brightspace is the new learning management system for the college.

Q:What is happening to ANGEL?
A: The ANGEL system will be shutting down and will not be available after 06/30/2015.

Q:What if I have materials in ANGEL that I want to keep?
A: Contact the Director of the Faculty Center for Instructional Design and Educational Technology (CIDET) pcochrane@sjcme.edu to discuss having your materials migrated.

Q:When should I begin using Brightspace?
A: Brightspace will be available for on campus instructors and students for Spring Semester 2015 (January 12, 2015)

Q:Will we receive any training?

I hope you’re all doing well and are enjoying the Brightspace system. I know all of us here are looking forward to moving all of your courses to the new system and working with all of you on using the system to its fullest extent!
I will be offering two workshops in November. These are not required, however they are a supplement to your training course you are currently taking or finished. The first workshop will be an overview of the Brigthspace toolset. I will go over all of the tools in the system and touch on what they can do. The second workshop will go over the discussion forums tool. This tool is probably the tool that you will be utilizing the most in the Brightspace system. Because of this, we would like to offer a more in depth look at the discussions tool.

Schedule:
Pre-requisite Instructor LMS Basic Training

  • Brightspace Tools Overview – Tuesday, November 18th (2-3PM EST)
  • Brightspace Discussions Overview – Wednesday, November 19th (2-3PM EST)

Those are the times of the live workshops. Please note – if you are unable to attend that the listed time, I will be recording these workshops for on-demand viewing.

Time flies when you’re having fun. I started working in the library 11 years ago. The library has been (and continues to be) an exciting and interesting place to work. I’m the access services coordinator. That means that I oversee the circulation of items and help our online students get to the library’s online resources. I enjoy working with a student to overcome technological challenges. When I’m not listening to music, I’m watching a plethora of bad television and cult B movies.
